WOW Organics Veterans Speaking at Hemp Culture Expo San Diego

This February 15th and 16th, the Hemp Culture Expo 2020 is a free educational event open to the public. It aims to provide an experience for the people of San Diego to learn about Hemp and CBD through an active discovery from guest speakers, vendors, and presenters.

Two Veterans from WOW Organics were invited to speak and will be sharing their unique perspectives and experience with hemp for attendees. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a Veteran with PTSD, how Veterans use hemp to help their symptoms, and how our service animals can benefit from hemp CBD then we invite you to attend.

Combat, CBD, and a Cause

On February 15th, Saturday, at 2pm, US Army Combat Veteran Dan Schmink shares Combat to Cannabis: The Science Behind The Story. In this presentation, listeners get a comprehensive insight from lessons learned through combat, dealing with PTSD upon returning home, and the toolkit he’s developed over the years to redefine a disorder through growth.

As an anger management specialist, Ian teaches the tools and tactics for controlling emotions and responses to stimuli. He is a member of the advisory board for the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). Ian and Dante the Pit Bull are well known in the San Diego hemp community.

How Common Is PTSD Among Veterans?

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reports that the incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder among Veterans varies depending on which conflict a service member was involved with.

  • About 11 to 20 out of every 100 Veterans (or between 11 and 20%) who served in operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom have PTSD in a given year.
  • About 12 out of every 100 Gulf War Veterans (or 12%) have PTSD in a given year.
  • About 15 out of every 100 Vietnam Veterans (15%) were currently diagnosed with PTSD when the most recent study of them (the National Vietnam Veteran Readjustment Study) was conducted in the late 1980s. It’s believed that 30% of Vietnam Veterans have had PTSD in their lifetime.

In hard numbers, that means there are millions of Veterans that suffer from PTSD.
